DATA PROTECTION

Privacy policy

This page describes the data used by Selle Protect to manage accounts, searches, theft reports and match alerts. We limit collection to the information strictly necessary to operate the service.

No personal document is required.

Do not send an identity card, police report, bank details or supporting document containing sensitive information. No payment method is requested in the current version.

Account data

  • first and last name;
  • sign-in email address;
  • country and department, region, state or province;
  • account type, individual or professional;
  • company name for a professional account;
  • creation date, plan and available searches.

Sign-in is handled by ChatGPT. Selle Protect does not receive or store passwords.

Private saddle records and histories

Account holders may save a private saddle record containing the brand, optional model, serial number, year, size, colour, discipline and private notes. They may then add dated events such as a purchase, maintenance, repair, inspection or transfer, with the optional name of a workshop or professional.

This information is visible only from the account that entered it. It is not added to the public theft registry or disclosed in search results. Events in the current version are declared by the account holder: Selle Protect does not certify their contents, ownership of the saddle or the involvement of a named professional.

To prevent an accidental duplicate, the brand and serial-number combination may be compared with other private records in the same account. This check never reveals data from another account.

Data collected for a theft report

  • first name, last name and email from the account;
  • phone number;
  • saddle brand, optional model and serial number;
  • date, country and department, region, state or province of theft;
  • optional details entered by the reporting person;
  • consent date and administrative status of the report.

Match alerts

When a different account searches for the exact brand and serial number of a saddle whose theft has been confirmed, Selle Protect may create an alert in the reporting person’s account. The same saddle can trigger no more than one automatic alert every 24 hours.

The automatic alert contains the date, the saddle concerned and the fact that a match occurred. It does not contain the identity, name, email, country or region of the person who made the search. The searched number is not added to that person’s account history; the event is linked to the existing theft report.

Information sent voluntarily

After a match with a confirmed theft, a person may choose to send a message and an optional link. Before sending, they must agree that this content and their account email will be shared with the reporting person so that they can reply. This voluntary transmission is separate from the anonymous automatic alert.

How data is used

Account data is used to apply the number of searches included in the selected plan and to secure requests. Contact details are used to review a report, contact the reporting person if clarification is needed, manage a recovery or deletion request and send alerts concerning their saddle. Email delivery may be entrusted to a technical provider when that service is configured.

Information made public

A search can only indicate that a brand and serial-number combination is reported stolen, reported recovered or absent from the registry. The reporting person’s first name, last name, email and phone number are never displayed publicly.

Retention

An account, its private saddle records and their histories are kept until the account holder deletes them. Deleting a saddle record deletes its associated events; deleting an account deletes all private saddle records. Search counters renew monthly and old counters are deleted. Rejected reports are intended to be deleted after the time needed to process them. For an approved report, its information and alerts are retained for as long as the alert remains useful, subject to applicable deletion rights and service-security needs.

Your choices and rights

Each private saddle record and its history can be deleted from the personal account. The account itself can also be deleted there. Deleting an account does not automatically close an approved theft report: the confidential code issued after reporting can be used to view its status, report recovery or request deletion.

Cookies and searches

The current version does not use advertising or audience-analytics tools. Sign-in and a technical counter are required to apply the monthly limit. Brands and serial numbers searched are not kept in a personal history. Only a match with a confirmed theft may create the anonymous alert event described above.
